John was born near Carlisle and in his early career he worked with many large international companies. In 1996, John acquired his first investment property and now has a portfolio of 21 properties. His tenants range from working tenants to those in receipt of Local Housing Allowance, which gives him experience of working with a wide range of client groups.
John established Orchard Lettings in 1995 in Northampton, he ran this successful lettings business for over 20 years before he sold the company on to another ARLA Propertymark registered agent almost 10 years ago. John now runs Orchard Block Managements Services Ltd, managing 85 apartment blocks (nearly 1400 flats!), as well as his own portfolio - he’s a busy man!
Since then, John has concentrated on his own portfolio and turned to Upad in 2009 to take control with ease and speed. John loves using Upad because he can create professional looking property adverts through his online dashboard, and he receives high quality tenant enquiries in return. John is always impressed with the speed of let - he usually lets his properties within 2 weeks of the ad going live. John, like Upad CEO James Davis, really enjoys meeting tenants face-to-face at viewings so they can make a well informed decision on whether they are right for the property, and vice versa. And with an average tenancy length of 4 years and 8 months- he must be doing something right!
John is a prominent contributor in public relations and public speaking for the lettings industry: you’ll find John regularly contributing to BBC Radio 4. John was also an ardent supporter of the recent judicial review of Section 24, the campaign against the proposed tax changes next year, which means there will no longer be tax relief on mortgage interest.
We’d like to thank John and his tenant Val for their time in creating this video - it was a pleasure working with them both.
